About Us

Železiarne Podbrezová a.s. ranks among the oldest metallurgical companies in Central European area. Treatment of iron ores and other non-ferrous metals, which were abundant in the region of the upper course of the Hron river, started as early as in the 16th century. History of the company dates back to 1840,when the decision to set up ironworks in Podbrezová with the aim to manufacture rails for construction of railways in the then Austrian monarchy was made. The first products of the Podbrezová ironworks were rails, sheet and bar iron. Production of steel tubes started in 1930 after build-up of Mannesmann rolling mill. The company continued to expand and enhance the level of technological equipment, which corresponds to present-day global requirements and ranks among important European producers of hot-rolled steel seamless tubes, cold drawn steel seamless tubes, tube semi-products, large diameters tubes, and fittings. In 1992 the state-owned company was transformed to the shareholding company. The company is holder of solutions for automobile industry, energy sector, engineering production as well as producers of structures and distributions.
