Leoni equips Siemens MRTs

Leoni equips also the latest generation of Siemens magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) units with standard and special cables since end of 2009. Overall, the follow-up contract is worth an eight-digit euro amount.

“Thanks to this order we are consolidating our position as a supplier for the healthcare sector,” states Dr. Klaus Probst, CEO and President of Leoni AG. “We consider medical technology to be an important market of the future, which will need more and more high quality cable systems”.

With this project, the Nuremberg based company continues the successful collaboration with one of the largest providers in the healthcare sector. “Leoni qualified thanks to its extensive range of products and services, an international footprint and our good collaboration on past projects,” said Mr Thomas Bank from the magnetic resonance purchasing department of Siemens’ Healthcare sector on award of the new contract. Leoni already provided the wiring for the Siemens Magnetom Avanto and Espree MR units. With its latest Magnetom Aera and Skyra generation, Siemens again sets trends by supporting patients and hospitals in a forwarding-looking way with respect to their primary objective of getting the best possible diagnosis while simultaneously increasing productivity.

With the glass and polymer fiber optic cables, copper conductors in the form of coaxial and symmetrical cables as well as fully assembled and ready-to-install cable systems supplied, the cable company ensures the correspondingly efficient data and signal transmission for as well as power supply to the devices. Leoni has also developed a number of special hybrid cables that perform several functions with a smaller outer diameter and thus reduce the weight of the units. The new mobile table that is used with these MR units for faster preparation of patients for scans and thereby to increase the patient through-put is also fitted with Leoni cables.
