In January, BENTELER delivered welded precision steel tubes in the Ambition category to a customer for the first time. The Stabilus Group, one of the world's leading providers of motion control solutions, uses them to manufacture gas springs.
"Climate change and the associated decarbonization of industry, especially the steel industry, are among the most important challenges of our time. The joint alliance between BENTELER and Stabilus demonstrates our strong commitment to operating sustainably and making our contribution to reducing the carbon footprint", explains Ralph Mathis, Chief Sales Officer BENTELER Steel/Tube. "We are very pleased that our long-standing partner Stabilus is the first customer to receive welded tubes of our recently launched CliMore® brand directly from us."
The BENTELER Steel/Tube Division unveiled the new brand for sustainable steel tubes in the fall of 2023. The first quantities of seamless tubes were successfully placed with European trading partners at the end of last year.
New product brand identifies all CO2-reduced steel products
According to BENTELER, the company has set itself the goal of reducing its CO2 footprint and is gradually adapting its own product and service portfolio to the increasing ecological interest of its customers.
The new CliMore® product brand encompasses all of the division's CO2-reduced steels and steel tube products and divides them into three sustainability categories: Advantage, Ambition and Excellence. These are each intended to indicate how the steel was produced and which energy sources were used.
In all three stages, the electric arc furnace is used to produce low-emission steel from scrap - this recycling alone is expected to save up to 75 % of CO2 emissions compared to the production of new steel from iron ore in the classic blast furnace route. In the Ambition stage, green electricity is also used in the tube mills and for operating the electric arc furnace.
According to BENTELER, this leads to a saving of up to 85 % of CO2 emissions. At the highest level, Excellence, the company will also focus on electrifying the plants or using green hydrogen as an energy source for process energy in the production of steel and its processing into pipes.
