Habaş Group and Danieli have entered into a partnership to strengthen their presence in the flat products sector. They want to meet the ever-growing needs and demand for cold-rolled and annealed thin sheets.
The two companies have agreed to supply a cold rolling mill for flat products. The new plant, with a capacity of 900,000 tons per year, will be built on a greenfield area in Aliağa, near Izmir. There are already existing Habaş facilities nearby. The future cold rolling mill will produce 250,000 tons of tinplate per year in various steel grades such as T1 to T4 (single reduction) and DR7 to DR10 (double reduction). Habaş's offering continues to include 150,000 tons of thin, continuously annealed cold-rolled coils and 500,000 tons of semi-finished products such as electrolytically cleaned, fully hard coils per year.
Modern facility
The new complex will include four processing areas: electrolytic cleaning, cold rolling and tempering, electrolytic tinning and continuous annealing. The cleaning area ensures a completely enclosed environment to prevent any emission of vapors or liquids.
The DCR mill will be equipped with a 15,000 kN roll stand, low-hysteresis HAGC cylinders, a roll cooling system, antioxidant heads, a direct application system and a strip drying system, among others. Another highlight is the dual-functional electrolyte tinning line. The continuous annealing line with a powerful radiant tube furnace as well as a special cleaning and DCR double cold reduction line will guarantee high quality tinplate and cold rolled strip. The minimum strip thickness will be 0.2 mm and will be processed at a maximum speed of 500 m/min.
Danieli Automation will operate the new complex with its electrical equipment and control systems. The system will be put into operation gradually from the end of 2024.
