Corinth Pipeworks is accelerating the adoption of low-CO₂ steel solutions in the production of energy pipes, reinforcing its strategic focus on supporting the decarbonization of energy infrastructure. As part of its ongoing collaboration with ArcelorMittal, the company has begun using “XCarb® recycled and renewably produced” steel in the manufacturing of pipe solutions for energy applications.
By combining Corinth Pipeworks’ advanced pipe manufacturing capabilities with ArcelorMittal’s expertise in low-carbon steel production, the partnership aims to deliver pipeline solutions with a significantly reduced carbon footprint. These solutions are designed not only for conventional energy applications but also for emerging sectors such as hydrogen transport and next-generation energy networks.
The “XCarb®” steel used in this process is produced via the electric arc furnace (EAF) route, incorporating at least 75% recycled scrap and powered by 100% renewable electricity. Compared to traditional blast furnace production, this approach can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 65%, while maintaining the high performance required for demanding pipeline applications.
In addition to lowering direct emissions, the use of low-carbon steel supports customers in reducing their Scope 3 emissions and contributes to the development of a more sustainable, circular steel economy.
For Corinth Pipeworks, sustainability is a core element of its long-term strategy. The company is focused on increasing transparency across the value chain, advancing low-emission production processes and enabling its customers to implement more sustainable infrastructure solutions.
The collaboration is particularly focused on energy and hydrogen infrastructure, where both material performance and environmental impact are critical. By integrating low-CO₂ steel into its production processes, Corinth Pipeworks is positioning itself as a key supplier of high-performance, future-ready pipe systems for the global energy transition.
Through this initiative, Corinth Pipeworks underlines its role in driving innovation at the intersection of pipe manufacturing, advanced materials and decarbonization, supporting the development of resilient and sustainable energy networks worldwide.
