Corinth Pipeworks, the steel pipes segment of Cenergy Holdings, has been awarded the line pipe supply package for the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 Project offshore Mozambique. The contract covers approximately 250 km of longitudinally submerged arc welded (LSAW) steel pipes with a total weight of around 120,000 tonnes.
The order was placed by the Area 4 partners led by ExxonMobil Moçambique. According to Cenergy Holdings, the contract has an estimated value of between $200 million and $250 million.
The pipes will be manufactured at Corinth Pipeworks’ Thisvi plant in Greece and will be used for the offshore pipeline network of the LNG development. Diameters will range from 20 to 24 inches.
Coated line pipes for deepwater operation
In addition to pipe manufacturing, the scope includes anti-corrosion coating and concrete weight coating. The latter provides the additional weight required to stabilise subsea pipelines on the seabed.
The LSAW pipes will be designed to withstand the demanding operating conditions associated with deepwater natural gas production. The combination of pipe production and coating within the contract underlines the technical requirements of the offshore project.
Corinth Pipeworks General Manager Ilias Bekiros said the award reflects confidence in the company’s technical capabilities, manufacturing expertise and experience in executing complex offshore pipeline projects.
Major pipe package for Mozambique LNG development
The Rovuma LNG development is located in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin offshore Mozambique. Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a joint venture between ExxonMobil, Eni and CNPC, operates the block and holds a 70% participation interest. XRG, Kogas and Mozambique’s Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) each hold 10%.
With around 250 km of 20- to 24-inch LSAW pipes and a total volume of 120,000 tonnes, the order represents a substantial production package for Corinth Pipeworks and strengthens the company’s involvement in large-scale offshore energy infrastructure projects.
