Based on the annual methane emissions report in accordance with the EU regulation on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector, the Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V. (DVGW) is making it easier for all network operators to record and report methane emissions by expanding its statistics tool: The „GaWaS“ application now enables standardised nationwide input.
„The new tool offers all companies the opportunity to fulfil their reporting obligations and at the same time creates the transparency required by the EU regulation with regard to methane emissions. Nationwide participation by gas infrastructure operators will support the industry in communicating the safety, reliability and high standard of environmental protection of gas networks to the public, even in the face of the gas network transformation“, says Prof Dr Gerald Linke, Chairman of the DVGW Executive Board.
Support for users and standardised data structure
The data from the inventory and event data collection are linked in the input screen with the data of the emission factors relevant for distribution grids. The input screen also records all the information required for reporting from 2025 onwards.
The OGMP template for the gas infrastructure was mapped for this purpose. Users who have already registered for the GaWaS tool can log in to enter data directly on the DVGW website, where a detailed user guide is also provided.
With the application, the authorities benefit from a standardised data structure that ensures the comparability of the published data. The standardised application gives the operators of gas infrastructures security when communicating with authorities and the public.
