The European Commission has officially cleared the acquisition of ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iași (AMTP Iași) by the Metinvest Group under the EU Merger Regulation. Following an assessment of market shares in small welded steel tubes, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede competition and therefore granted unconditional approval.
AMTP Iași, based in Romania, is a producer of small welded carbon steel tubes and hollow sections and was previously part of the ArcelorMittal Group. Metinvest, a vertically integrated Ukrainian steel and mining group, already operates several downstream facilities in the EU—including in Bulgaria, Italy and the United Kingdom—and is expanding its tube-producing footprint within the single market through this transaction.
The acquisition was filed with the Commission in October 2025, and approval was issued in late November, becoming publicly known in early December 2025. Strategically, the Iași mill enables Metinvest to rebuild its tube production capacity in Europe following the loss of assets in Mariupol and to close the value chain from steelmaking to finished tubular products.
The decision underscores the EU’s view that the deal maintains a competitive environment while supporting continued industrial activity in Europe’s tubular products sector.
