The new welded pipes from the CliMore® brand are now being delivered directly from the Benteler electric steelworks in Lingen for the first time. The Stabilus Group, global provider of motion control solutions, will use the CliMore® tubes of the "Ambition" category for the production of gas springs.
The Benteler brand CliMore stands for sustainable steel and steel tube products from electric arc furnaces that are based on recycled steel scrap. Benteler Steel/Tube presented the brand in autumn 2023 and supplied European trading partners with the first quantities of seamless tubes at the end of last year. Now, for the first time, welded pipes made of CO2-reduced steel are being delivered directly from the Benteler electric steelworks in Lingen without intermediaries.
“Climate change and the associated decarbonization of industry, especially the steel industry, are currently significant challenges. The cooperation between Benteler and Stabilus underlines our deep commitment to sustainable business and our contribution to reducing the CO2 footprint. We are particularly pleased that our long-standing partner Stabilus is the first customer for welded tubes from our recently launched CliMore® brand,” says Ralph Mathis, Chief Sales Officer at Benteler Steel/Tube.
High sustainable demand
Benteler's customers have increasing ecological demands - the company has adapted its product and service portfolio to suit its customers. In September 2023, the Steel/Tube division introduced its new product brand CliMore®, which includes all of the division's CO2-reduced steel and steel tube products. These are divided into three sustainability categories: Advantage, Ambition and Excellence.
In all three categories, low-emission steel is produced from scrap using an electric arc furnace, saving up to 75 percent of CO2 emissions compared to the traditional blast furnace route. In the Ambition category, green electricity is also used in the pipe mills and for the electric arc furnace, which leads to savings of up to 85 percent in CO2 emissions. The highest category Excellence (currently not yet available) also relies on the use of green hydrogen as an energy source for process energy in steel production and pipe processing.
