The steel manufacturers ArcelorMittal, Dillinger, Peinerträger and Stahlwerk Thüringen have published their new EPD “Structural Steels: Open Rolled Profiles and Heavy Plates” under the leadership of bauforumstahl. In this third edition of the association's EPD, the member companies signal their high quality standards when it comes to sustainability.
Environmental product declarations are well established
"And for a good reason. Architects, auditors, steel traders, construction companies and real estate companies who value building certification need the environmental product declarations as evidence during the planning phase. Buildings that are built with products from our association EPD can be easily assessed for their sustainability because all the data necessary for building certification is included,” explains Dr. Rolf Heddrich, managing director and spokesman for bauforumstahl.
Examination by an official body
In October 2018, the bauforumstahl EPD (environmental product declaration) was checked by the independent Institute for Construction and Environment (IBU) and was published in German and English. In addition to the life cycle assessment results for production and recycling potential, they also contain product definitions and building physics information, information on raw materials, material origin, descriptions of product production, information on product processing and standardization, information on the condition of use, unusual impacts and the post-use phase.
Steel construction profiles, steel bars and heavy plates in grades S235 to S960 are included. The life cycle assessment is based on DIN ISO 14025 and the requirements of EN 15804 and is therefore 100% compliant with EN 15978, the standard for assessing the sustainability of buildings.
