At the electric steelworks in Riesa, production in the steelworks and rolling mill has been stopped for four weeks since December 20, 2023. This is necessary due to general repairs at FERALPI STAHL, which are carried out annually.
Extensive maintenance work is being carried out throughout the plant as part of general repairs. This work cannot be carried out during ongoing operations with short downtimes and affects the production facilities, such as the melting furnace, casting plant and rolling stands, the supply infrastructure such as electrical installations and pipelines for media, as well as the transport systems. Regular maintenance and repairs serve to optimize system availability to ensure trouble-free operation throughout the year, ensure energy and material efficiency and enable low emission values.
General repairs for competitiveness
These measures are essential for Feralpi Stahl to remain competitive on the market, to be able to reliably offer customers high quality and at the same time to produce in an environmentally conscious and responsible manner. Extensive measures are planned for general repairs: machines that are essential to the production process will be completely dismantled, cleaned, maintained and reassembled. In addition, new investments are being made in the production facilities. The focus this year is on replacing the weighing frame for the melting furnace, which is a massive steel structure on which the electric furnace and equipment stand and are moved.
In addition, the conversion and addition of billet transport systems between the continuous casting plant and the rolling mill furnace are an important measure to create a connection between the existing steelworks and rolling mill A with the ultra-modern, emission-free rolling mill B, which is currently under construction. Rolling mill B is an important milestone for FERALPI STAHL on the way to producing green steel in Riesa.
General repairs are carried out centrally by the Head of Maintenance, Dr. Dirk Breuer managed and coordinated, the resumption of production is planned for week 3 / 2024.
