As the system supplier for this new greenfield project in Shimonoseki, Japan, SMS group will provide all quality-defining components. These include the heating systems as well as the extrusion press for tube manufacturing, together with the corresponding automation technology.
The heating systems supplied by SMS are fully electrified and comprise a horizontal billet preheating system, an intermediate heating system for precise and flexible reheating prior to piercing, and a final heating system for precision reheating before extrusion. Key forming units include an expanding press and a next-generation horizontal tube extrusion press for extruding pierced billets, complemented by a run-out system with an integrated water quenching tank. By increasing the press force of the horizontal extrusion press from 20 to 50 meganewtons, Maruichi is significantly expanding the range of dimensions possible in stainless steel tube production.
The facility will feature a highly automated production system equipped with state-of-the-art machinery to optimize manufacturing processes. A variety of automation solutions will enhance productivity, minimize human error, and ensure consistent quality across all production stages. In addition, the production line will be equipped with SMS’s process control system MIDIS (Management Information Diagnostic Indication System), which enables precise monitoring and control of all processes. MIDIS provides real-time data analysis and process optimization, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with the highest international standards. The combination of advanced automation and sophisticated quality assurance further strengthens Maruichi’s reputation as a reliable producer of premium stainless steel products.
Construction of the new plant building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, followed by equipment installation. Production is planned to start in fiscal year 2027, once JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) certification has been obtained.
