The long-established Augsburg-based company KUKA has founded a new business unit, ‘KUKA Digital’, which focuses on the end-to-end digitalisation of industrial production processes. The company is thus placing a clear focus on the increasing importance of software and digital solutions in mechanical and plant engineering and is preparing for a market segment with considerable growth potential.
KUKA Digital focuses on the end-to-end digitalisation of machines and systems - from the first 3D simulation to networking and data analysis through to the use of artificial intelligence. The new digital division is intended to support customers in making their production processes more efficient, faster and more transparent. This is KUKA's response to the growing importance of software and digital solutions in the industry and aims to further expand its position as a leading partner in the manufacturing industry.
Experience as the basis for digitisation success
“We are moving beyond traditional automation solutions to become a digitalisation partner for the manufacturing industry,” explains Quirin Görz, KUKA Chief Information Officer and CEO of the newly established digital division. KUKA is utilising its decades of experience in robotics and automation to help customers achieve greater productivity, resilience and sustainability.
The new division focuses not only on KUKA's own robots, but also on a software portfolio that can be used regardless of the machine type or manufacturer. This enables customers to digitalise their production environments end-to-end, regardless of existing machinery.
KUKA Digital builds on existing competences and established brands. With the independent brands Device Insight and Visual Components, KUKA already has many years of experience in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics and simulation software.
Premiere of the ‘mosaixx’ cloud platform announced for November
A central element of the new digital strategy is the introduction of ‘mosaixx’, an open, collaborative cloud platform for Industrial Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), which will expand the KUKA Digital portfolio this year. This platform is intended to serve as the basis for end-to-end digital production and enables access to various software solutions for ECAD and MCAD programmes, simulation, offline programming and virtual commissioning.
‘mosaixx’ offers engineers a comprehensive, location-independent working environment in which processes, workflows and cloud storage can be efficiently structured and linked. The platform thus forms the foundation for a modern and fully digitalised production environment.
KUKA will present ‘mosaixx’ to the public for the first time on 7 November as part of a digital and software event at its headquarters in Augsburg.
