Kazakhstan is taking a major step toward industrial independence with the construction of its first large-diameter (LD) steel pipe production facility. The UK-based Stal Trade Group has officially begun building the new plant—named the Caspian Pipe Plant—in Aktau, located in the Mangystau region, as reported by local authorities.
The Caspian Pipe Plant will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tons of steel pipes with diameters of up to 1,420 mm. Once operational, the facility will fully meet domestic demand for steel pipes in the oil and gas, energy, construction, and utilities sectors.
“This will not only replace imports, but also reduce the cost of pipe products and stimulate the development of industries such as logistics, mechanical engineering, and metallurgy,” said Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The new plant marks a significant move toward greater self-sufficiency in Kazakhstan’s infrastructure and industrial supply chain.
