When the rental agreement for the office space in the Silberpalais in Duisburg expires, Klöckner & Co will relocate the company's headquarters to Düsseldorf. The headquarters of Kloeckner Metals Germany GmbH and the Duisburg employees of kloeckner.i GmbH will also move to the new building in Düsseldorf. The move of around 250 employees is scheduled to take place in summer 2025 at the latest. The Kloeckner Metals Germany warehouse located in Duisburg will remain in Duisburg.
In view of the expiring rental agreement, the company in Duisburg examined around 70 locations in Duisburg and neighboring cities in advance of the decision based on various criteria such as location and transport connections, quality of space, CO2 balance and economic viability of the properties.
“By moving to the Airport Garden property in Düsseldorf, we will create a sustainable and future-oriented working environment for our employees. At the same time, we remain connected to the Ruhr area and Duisburg in particular. We will continue our social commitment in Duisburg-Marxloh and, for example, continue to actively support the education project of the Ruhr Piano Festival and the ReDI School of Digital Integration project,” explains Guido Kerkhoff, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Klöckner & Co SE
New sustainable building
The Airport Garden building at Düsseldorf Airport will be the company's new headquarters. The Airport Garden has been awarded the gold standard as part of the internationally recognized sustainability certification for real estate – “LEED” (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). For example, concrete core activation is used in the building for energy-efficient heating and cooling of work surfaces. With the move, Klöckner & Co will reduce its CO2 emissions at the group headquarters by more than half compared to the current location. Due to its location, the building also offers very good transport connections.
The new areas will be closely based on the “New Work” working concept, take into account the changed way of working since the pandemic and will be designed as flexibly as possible - also with the close involvement of Duisburg employees. The company is thus creating a modern corporate headquarters that creates more space for cross-team exchange and projects and at the same time offers more space for focus work. Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) advised and supported the property search process.
