French clean energy pioneer Lhyfe has achieved a breakthrough in certified green hydrogen production by securing RFNBO certification for three additional manufacturing sites. The company now operates four certified facilities across Germany and France with 21 MW combined capacity, producing up to 8.3 tonnes of renewable hydrogen daily. This expansion solidifies Lhyfe's position as Europe's leading RFNBO hydrogen supplier.
Lhyfe's newest certifications encompass its flagship 10 MW facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, scheduled for official inauguration in October. Two French sites complete the expansion: Buléon (5 MW) in Brittany and Bessières (5 MW) in Occitania. These join the pioneering Bouin facility (1 MW) in Pays-de-la-Loire, which achieved certification in May 2025.
German Facility Sets Industrial Benchmark
The Schwäbisch Gmünd plant represents Lhyfe's largest production facility to date and ranks as Germany's second-largest RFNBO hydrogen operation, trailing only the Oberhausen Trailblazer project. Meanwhile, the Buléon and Bessières sites establish new capacity records as France's largest hydrogen production facilities.
Premium EU Certification Unlocks Funding Access
RFNBO certification represents the European Union's most stringent ecological standard for green hydrogen under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III). This designation confirms 100% renewable production aligned with EU Taxonomy environmental and traceability criteria. Customers gain access to national and European incentive programs while receiving comprehensive sustainability documentation.
Continental Leadership in Hydrogen Logistics
Lhyfe operates nearly 70 Type-4 containers, forming one of Europe's largest hydrogen transport fleets. This wholesale-focused network serves diverse applications spanning mobility, industrial processes, and research initiatives including salt cavern storage, combustion testing, and construction equipment trials.
