UK-based steel manufacturer Liberty Steel Group has announced that its subsidiary, Liberty Pipes Hartlepool, has started producing line pipes for a major energy infrastructure project in Teesside. The project is led by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP)—a collaboration between BP, Equinor, and TotalEnergies—and Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power).
The supply contract for the project was signed last year, and as previously reported by SteelOrbis, the initiative aims to play a crucial role in the UK's carbon reduction strategy. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in 2027.
As part of the project, Liberty Pipes Hartlepool will manufacture 105 kilometers of offshore pipeline infrastructure. These pipelines will be used to transport captured carbon to the Endurance carbon storage facility in the North Sea, located 1,000 meters below the seabed. This initiative marks a significant step toward reducing industrial carbon emissions and supports the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
