Together with the BUND Bremen regional association, ArcelorMittal Bremen has signed an agreement, setting the course for a 10-year partnership to increase nature conservation, especially biodiversity, primarily on the factory premises.
The focus of the agreement between ArcelorMittal and BUND is, among other things, the ecological improvement of industrially used areas, facilities and buildings, as well as the upgrading of natural areas, e.g. B. the water areas located in the industrial area, but in the long term also the dismantling of facilities that are no longer needed and the subsequent use of such areas, for example for development as forest or flowering areas.
ArcelorMittal Bremen intends to create a “Nature Conservation 2030 Development Concept” in coordination with the BUND in order to recognize this potential and create the basis for the implementation of such measures.
“The key to sustainable nature conservation lies in cooperative and trusting collaboration with BUND. With the signing we have created the basis for our cooperation. Which measures will be in particular focus will be developed together with the BUND and agreed upon in a committee. We look forward to the joint projects and the advancement of sustainable steel production,” explains Thomas Bünger, CEO of ArcelorMittal Bremen.
“The extensive ArcelorMittal Bremen factory site is used for a variety of purposes, but also offers space for nature. More biodiversity, especially where it is used, is an exciting challenge, but also a great opportunity. The fact that ArcelorMittal Bremen wants to take such a path is exemplary. We are happy to contribute our knowledge and experience in nature conservation,” emphasizes Martin Rode, Managing Director of the BUND Bremen regional association.
