With a length of 753 kilometres, the TAL pipeline supplies 8 refineries in Central Europe, making it one of the most important European infrastructures for oil transport.
Nidec Industrial Solutions, part of the Nidec Group's Energy & Infrastructure division, was selected by SIOT (Società italiana per l'oleodotto transalpino S.p.A.), part of the TAL Group, as a partner for the TAL pipeline efficiency project. The aim is to transport oil from Trieste to Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.
"We are once again proud to enter into new partnerships and to work with a top local company with international experience in the field of technology", said Alessio Lilli, President and CEO of SIOT and General Manager of the TAL Group.
Strict technical requirements for high-performance motors for pumping stations fulfilled
Nidec has been commissioned to supply 13 medium-voltage asynchronous motors. The new Nidec motors of type ET 900 V2 achieve a rated output of 3600 KW, which corresponds to an increase of 20 % compared to the infrastructure motors currently in use, and are intended for the Italian oil pumping stations in Trieste, Cavazzo and Paluzza.
The requirements of the TAL Group and the oil industry are high: they demand higher efficiency, low starting current, high adaptability and resistance to operating temperatures, optimisation of the power factor and a significant reduction in vibrations. Nidec's technologies fulfil these stringent technical requirements.
The installation of the motors by Nidec is planned for 2024. This phase will be accelerated in close collaboration with the pump manufacturer and the TAL Group's operations functions by adapting the engine dimensions to the onshore position and all the machine's power interfaces.
"We are delighted to have signed a contract to supply our engines for a strategic infrastructure that will continue to play such an important role in the distribution of hydrocarbons on the European continent", said Dominique Llonch, CEO of Nidec Industrial Solutions. "We were chosen for the added value of our technologies, which ensure the efficiency of the pipeline's pumping stations by increasing the availability and cost-effectiveness of energy and improving the safety of oil installations."
