Primetals Technologies is currently running three service workshops in China. The second phase of a strategic expansion at the Changxing location near Huzhou in Zhejiang Province has now been completed, with which Primetals Technologies will further expand its service offering in China. The expansion was celebrated with a ceremony on November 29, 2023, which was also attended by Changxing officials, customers and members of Primetals Technologies' global leadership team.
“By putting the new systems into operation, Primetals Technologies is expanding its service competencies here on site. This allows us to offer a broader range of services and better meet ever-changing customer and market needs - including manufacturing critical components, repairs and long-term maintenance. We also cover the entire production chain, from steel production to casting, ESP systems, long and flat rolling and further processing,” says Tomislav Koledic, CEO of Primetals Technologies China.
Other upstream services
Thanks to the expansion, the service workshop in Changxing, which opened in 2019, now has a size of almost 13,000 square meters. The range of services at the site now includes long and flat rolling mills, continuous casting plants, as well as the EAF Quantum and Arvedi ESP lines. In addition, the workshop also serves as a platform for state-of-the-art condition monitoring and proactive maintenance solutions. Primetals Technologies now plans to expand its metallurgical services activities across China, with a focus on advanced upstream technology services.
At the Changxing location, the company also offers services for the growing number of EAF-Quantum systems in China: such as services for EAF-Quantum fingers, a patented key component in the scrap preheating system from Primetals Technologies, or services for the EAF-Quantum lance tip , a key component in carbon and oxygen injection, which must be welded from various materials to ensure high temperature resistance.
“As an OEM, we are in a unique position. By bundling our know-how in the areas of processes, technology, electrical and automation, maintenance as well as modernization and conversion, we can not only improve our service performance, but also support our customers in optimizing their system performance. All of this corresponds exactly to our motto 'Next-Level Services Now',” explains Karl Purkarthofer, Global Head of Metallurgical Services at Primetals Technologies.
Downstream lines
The preparation and production of key components for long and flat rolling mills are now also part of the range of services at the workshop in Changxing. For example, the overhaul of Morgoil oil film bearings, which enjoy an excellent reputation in China for quality and service life. Regular maintenance of the Arvedi ESP line equipment can also be carried out at the Changxing location.
The expanded workshop in Changxing is characterized by lean processes, an intelligent manufacturing concept and a high level of energy efficiency. Solar cells on the roof of the workshop provide around 60 percent of the electricity required to operate the system.
