SMS group was commissioned by PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, based in Indonesia, to supply state-of-the-art electrical and automation systems for their hot strip mill No. 1. The listed, state-owned company operates the plant in Cilegon in the Indonesian province of Banten.
Hot Strip Mill No. 1 plays an essential role in PT Krakatau Steel's production operations. It includes a roughing stand with upsetter, six finishing stands and two reels and is designed for an annual production output of 2.4 million tons. This order, which follows the successful commissioning of hot strip mill No. 2 by SMS, underlines the close partnership between PT Krakatau Steel and SMS and the continued trust in SMS technology.
Scope of delivery from SMS group
SMS will provide a modern X-Pact® electrical and automation system, which primarily includes Level 1 and Level 2 automation of the entire rolling mill. This includes a new main and auxiliary drive system as well as a modern low-voltage distribution system for the finished area. The X‑Pact® Vision HMI, an advanced human-machine interface with integrated faceplate technology, promises seamless operation with its advanced visualization concept and increases flexibility in maintenance. State-of-the-art mathematical level 2 models make a further contribution to improving the quality of the end product.
