SuedLink, the central infrastructure project of the energy transition, has taken another important step. The grid operator TenneT has started laying the first cables in Heeslingen (Lower Saxony).
„With the laying of the cables, SuedLink is becoming a reality kilometre by kilometre“, explained TenneT COO Tim Meyerjürgens. The construction progress on the first 37 kilometres of the 700-kilometre route shows that SuedLink is in full swing and will be visible along the entire route from north of the Elbe to Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg from 2025.
Press on site: insight into cable laying
Media representatives were given an insight into the construction work and cable laying technology as part of an underground cable pressing day. Presentations provided information about the challenges of the project.
During a tour, the journalists were able to watch the cable being pulled in live and inspect the horizontal directional drilling technology used to cross under roads and bodies of water. Experts from TenneT and partner companies such as NKT, Prysmian and De Romein were available for interviews and explained the importance of their contributions to the project.
Future of the project: construction phase 2025
The cable pull-in in Heeslingen marks the start of cable laying, which will extend along the entire route until 2025. Initial civil engineering work began in Baden-Württemberg in autumn 2023, while the Elbe crossing and converter work in Brunsbüttel and Wilster are also in full swing.
Complete construction along the entire route is planned for 2025, as soon as the outstanding building permits have been obtained.
