Danieli has been selected by Tata Steel Nederland to supply the innovative Energiron direct reduction technology to enable the production of high-quality DRI in a reliable and efficient manner while reducing CO2 emissions. The contract includes the design of a new Energiron Zero Reformer plant with an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of hot and cold DRI (sponge iron).
DRI Transportation
DRI will be transported to the new electric arc furnace via a Hytemp® system, which contributes to a very good overall energy efficiency of the new steel plant. The selected DRP-EAF configuration will replace the existing blast furnace and coke oven plants, resulting in 40% less CO2 emissions.
Energiron Technology
The Energiron technology includes a CO2 capture system and is conceptually ready for the use of hydrogen, so that any mixture ratio of natural gas and hydrogen can be used as a reducing agent. The process is more energy efficient and produces high quality DRI, which promotes both the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Green Steel production.
The Energiron direct reduction technology offers advantages in terms of energy efficiency and operational flexibility. It enables Tata Steel to produce the full range of products without compromising quality and to become fully CO2 neutral.
