The EAF, equipped with Consteel® technology, will reduce CO2 emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and increase production—a significant step towards cleaner steel production.
The complexity of the project demanded months of hard work and collaboration between Tenaris, Tenova and Techint Engineering & Construction. “It’s a testament to engineering, innovation, coordination, and teamwork—key aspects that define Tenaris’s culture and once again demonstrate our capacity to drive transformative projects,” said Javier Martínez Álvarez, Tenaris President for the Southern Cone.
With a production capacity of 950,000 tons of liquid steel for seamless pipe manufacturing, the new Consteel® EAF has replaced one of the two existing EAF units at the Siderca steelshop.
Developed by Tenova, Consteel® technology uses a continuous feed of raw materials instead of a batch process. Raw materials are heated and charged continuously into the EAF, where they are melted by immersion in the liquid steel, while gaseous emissions are controlled simultaneously. This process increases energy efficiency and productivity in the steel shop while significantly improving emissions control.
This project is one of several that Tenaris has deployed across its global manufacturing network to reduce its carbon footprint, in line with its 2030 decarbonization goal. Other initiatives include two wind farms in Argentina and photovoltaic power generation projects in China, Romania and Italy.
