Without pipelines, there is no secure energy supply available – they create the reliable veins which transport oil and gas over long distances. The core element of the supply pipework is mostly located underground or with steel pipes laid on the seabed. However, in order to ensure the safety, reliability, robustness and durability of the pipelines which have to be installed, manufacturers of steel pipes as well as the plants which process the steel and pipes must always provide high-quality components.
Demand is rising
The demand is increasing – the “appetite” for pipes is great. It is also being currently driven by the construction of LNG terminals. In order to improve their connection to the long-distance supply grid, local networks and to gas storage facilities, additional pipelines are necessary in Germany, for example. New supply pipelines are also being constructed in the USA because the LNG infrastructure is evolving there too. And pipe manufacturers are prepared for future developments: Hydrogen pipelines are urgently needed – thousands of kilometres have to be constructed in Europe alone.
High pipe quality
Extreme requirements demand everything from pipelines: The pipes, which are often coated internally and externally, have to withstand high operating pressure, high mechanical stresses and extreme temperatures frequently. Tighter tolerances, higher material qualities and cost-effective production – with consistently high pipe quality – are expected from manufacturers in order for them to be successful in the competitive market. High demands, which are also fulfilled by the exhibitors at Tube in Düsseldorf.
Trends and highlights from the industrial sectors of wire, cables and pipes will be presented at the world's leading trade fair of wire & Tube from 15 to 19 April 2024 in Düsseldorf.
