The lights have turned green – the mechanical engineering, steel and chemical industries are transitioning towards even more efficient processes and are increasingly opting for renewable energy and green hydrogen. The industrial sector is undergoing a green revolution.
Companies need H2-compatible pipes for the equipment and systems used in their manufacturing operations. Piping systems face high demands in terms of construction, quality and material durability – particularly in terms of explosion protection. The highest standards must be met, and leak-tightness is absolutely critical. But the pipe industry is more than ready to live up to these expectations.
Plenty in the pipeline
However, to supply companies with hydrogen, a robust pipeline infrastructure is essential. And several major projects are already under way, with numerous new hydrogen pipelines currently in the planning stage. By 2032, a Germany-wide hydrogen core network will have been established; it will be the largest hydrogen network in Europe, making it an important pillar of the climate-neutral energy system of the future. The total length of the approved core network is 9,040 kilometres. Another flagship project is the European Hydrogen Backbone, which aims to create a cross-border hydrogen network in Europe.
The pipe industry is H2-ready
This all means that billion-dollar investments are flowing into the hydrogen market – which also makes it a highly attractive market for the pipe industry. The good news is that this is already an ideal fit: The pipe industry is H2-ready and will play a central role in achieving climate targets of cutting emissions by a third by 2030.
