HYBRIT: fossil-free hydrogen gas storage facility is being inaugurated

SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall are inaugurating HYBRIT’s pilot facility for fossil-free hydrogen gas storage at Svartöberget in Luleå, Sweden. The rock cavern storage facility is the first of its kind in the world. The inauguration ceremony marks the start of the two-year test period, which will run until 2024.

SSAB and Alfa Laval have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development and commercialization of the world’s first heat exchanger to be made using fossil-free steel. The goal is to have the first unit made with hydrogen-reduced steel ready in 2023.

Nucor selects Fives for two galvanizing lines

Nucor Corporation awarded Fives a contract for both a vertical and horizontal galvanizing line, each capable of 500,000 tons per year. The first line will produce steel coils for automotive applications, while the second will produce steel for the construction market.
