When using multi-bladed reamers with a small tolerance range, the entire system, comprising the spindle, chuck and tool, must guarantee a perfect radial run-out. This is the only way to ensure compliance with minimal form and position tolerances during the precision machining of bores. It is possible that the permitted run-out errors of the three components accumulate at the blade without the individual components dropping out of the permissible tolerance ranges.

In order to compensate for errors in the overall system, MAPAL has developed the “Compensation” chuck. It is ideal for light machining jobs with multi-bladed reamers. The new chuck is based on proven MAPAL hydraulic expansion technology. In addition, the radial run-out can be set precisely with three adjustment elements. Depending on the direction of the error, the radial run-out is corrected quickly and simply using a hex driver.

The adjustment range is up to 10 µm and can be extended up to 15 µm. Wedges in the chuck serve to align the tool and, in turn, this prevents the tool from jamming. The system is self-locking and cannot become loose during fine machining. A fixed ring seals the alignment system. As such, it requires very little maintenance and is not sensitive to dirt which results in an elongated tool life. Ideal form and position tolerances as well as high vibration damping are the further advantages of the new “Compensation” chuck.

The new "Compensation“ hydraulic chuck is available in the clamping diameters 12, 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm for HSK-63A and the clamping diameters 20, 25 and 32 mm for SK50.
