Spring Steels

The properties expected from spring steels are the ability to deform in elastic area under load and return to its original form once the load is removed. At this point, springiness of the steel material used for manufacturing of springs is important. In spring steels, springiness of the material used for manufacturing of various springs is important. Spring steels are the steel materials used for spring manufacture.

The steel materials used for manufacturing of springs may be available in the form of workloads under working conditions such as drawing, compressing and twisting (inverting). Typical examples for springs based on load types may be listed as follows: leaf springs that are forced by twisting, twistable springs, helical springs that are forced to draw and compress, spring washers that are twist-forced, inverted springs, stabilizers.

Classification

Springs steels made from high-quality steels are classified by alloy elements:
  • Silicon (38Si7, 46Si7, 51Si7, 65Si7)
  • Silicon-chromium (60Si Cr7)
  • Silicon-manganese (60SiMn5)
Spring steels made from primal steels are classified by alloy elements:
  • Silicon (66Si7)
  • Chromium (55Cr3)
  • Silicon – Vanadium 50CrV4 and 58CrV4)
  • Chromium – Molybdenum – Vanadium (51CrMoV4)
On the other hand, some steels, especially those with a thin cross section, are classified by cold winding, while those with thick cross sections are classified by hot winding. The C percentage of cold springs are relatively high, coupled with surface smoothness, and are often heat treated. Warm-wound springs have larger cross sections and definitely have hardening properties.

Epoxy Rebar

WHAT ARE REBARS?
These are epoxy coated iron reinforcing bars. They are preferred for the reinforcement of structures, increasing service life where used. Epoxy coated rebars are manufactured as per ASTM A 775/775M standards.

WHY CHOOSE THEM?

These play a significant role in the prevention of corrosion, which causes concrete structures to crack and lose its properties.
Thanks to epoxy coated rebars, a physical and electrochemical barrier is created on steel, reinforcement is isolated and the occurrence of corrosion is prevented.
Epoxy coated rebar products are much stronger in proportion to normally used products.
These products provide almost 50% profit in the long-term compared to standard products when cost is calculated.
WHY ARE THEY COATED IN EPOXY PAINT?
When chemicals are used under various environmental and process conditions, natural factors such as rain water, humidity and other materials can come into contact with steel reinforcements within the bearings due to various reasons causing the reinforcements connecting foundation concrete, concrete platforms, concrete columns and beams to start to corrode. Epoxy coating prevents liquid from reaching rebars and as with the dowel bars, both rusting and corrosion resistance are increased. Potential cracks and fractures in the concrete is eliminated.

PLACES OF USE
They are highly used in strategic and qualified infra and superstuctures, roads, bridges, viaducts and industrial facilities, energy plants, dams, malls and high-rise buildings.

WHAT IS THE CONCRETE ADHESION STRENGTH OF EPOXY COATED STRUCTURAL IRON?
Epoxy coated rebars have a higher concrete adhesion strength capacity than uncoated rebars. A material’s elastic modulus is the measurement of its resistance to being deformed elastically under force. The most important parameter in determining this modulus is its interatomic bonding strength. The initial slope of the interatomic bonding strength curve for materials with high elastic modulus is high. The rigidity of the material is directly proportional to the interatomic bonding strength curve. The higher the initial slope of the interatomic bonding strength curve, the more rigid the material is. When the situation is the other way around, deformation is observed on the material.

The statistics for pulling tests on epoxy coated rebars are provided in the following table. The highest adhesion values belong to the epoxy coated rebar, as observed in the MPa results.
