Precise cutting of samples from a wide variety of materials – The new O-ring cutter ORC VC65 from VisioCablePro®

Precise and consistently uniform cutting results of a sample, as well as the effective use of measuring devices from the VisioCablePro® series, provide the basis of reliable and reproducible measurement results. In relation to this is the use of a precise cutter such as the O-Ring Cutter ORC VC65, essential for the quality assurance of extrusion products in the cable and plastics industries.

The current economic situation is marked by high costs, supply chain problems and staff shortages. As result of that it is even more important to save valuable resources with the help of efficient devices and solutions. The VisioCablePro® brand team has set itself the task of supporting manufacturers of extrusion products by using professional devices and software on all aspects of quality assurance, thus saving costs, time and material. In most cases the quality assurance process begins with the preparation of samples of the extruded product. Since precise and consistently uniform samples are the basis for reliable measurement results, hence the use of the new O-ring cutter ORC VC65 is essential at this point.

The new cutting device delivers a highly improved sample quality through a precise and reproducible sample thickness. When using the ORC VC65, the preparation is in accordance with the IEC 60811 standard. Samples with an outer diameter of 1 – 65 mm are easily cut by a manual and fine dosing of the progressive feed. The VC65 is also suitable for a wide variety of materials such as rubber, PVC, PE, plastic mesh and much more. This is made possible by a special two-sided steel blade by VisioCablePro®.

A firmly defined blade feed minimizes the influence of the operator at this point and thus guarantees a safer cutting process. The intelligent control electronics also ensure intuitive and, above all, a safe operation of the ORC VC65.

The new cutting device from iiM AG is ideal for preparing samples for qualitative measurement on offline measuring devices. Precise Quality Control directly at the extruding line – VisioCablePro® presents new measuring device for cables and tubes

Time efficiency, connectivity and short distances are only a few of factors which define modern production and whose optimisation always presents manufacturers with new challenges. The new automatic wall thickness and cross-section measuring device AlphaOne from VisioCablePro® is the perfect complement to the proven all-rounder VCPX5, being a more cost-effective alternative that does not have to accept any compromises in terms of quality.

Compared to its big brother VCPX5, the new measuring device AlphaOne is equipped with only one images field, depending on the outer diameter range. The idea behind this concept is very simple: within a cable factory, various intermediate stages such as cores and jackets are produced on different extrusion lines, whereby the diameter range of the cables produced by an individual extrusion line remain relatively constant. For this reason, the AlphaOne is placed directly next to the individual lines and thus saves the workers time-consuming walking distances for the intermediate tests. Additionally, a quicker intervention in the process is made possible.

Due to its compact and space-saving design and due to its very affordable price, multiple measuring devices can be places at each production line within a factory.

As usual with all VisioCablePro® products, the AlphaOne is also strictly based on the most important international standards (e.g. IEC 60811, LV112, ICEA S-94-649-2013) and thus fulfils all requirements in combination with the new VELOX_cable measuring software easily. The new measuring software enables a direct connection between measuring devices and customer’s existing adapted CAQ software or also with VisioCablePro®’s own CAQ software ProCable 3.

Besides the homogeneous Backlight for measuring one-layered samples (similar to a shadow-graph/profile projector), the new AlphaOne also additionally has a white Frontlight, which can be used to measure a large number of simple, multi-layered samples.  The in-house developed intelligent coloured Frontlight (LUMIMAX® by iiM AG) in combination with higher resolution monochrome cameras especially designed for complex multi-layer samples will remain the outstanding feature of the VCPX5 cable measuring device, as this all-rounder has a more versatile field of application (incoming inspection, laboratory, production, anywhere) as well as a larger diameter range (up to 3 measuring fields from 0 – 150 mm).  

The operation for the AlphaOne is very simple and intuitive. The lighting conditions are directly set via hardware button on the device – differently than with the flagship VCPX5. Due to the ideally pre-set / default light and camera parameters, as well as the fixed working distance towards the sample, the user influence is reduced to a minimum.

In contrast to its larger brother VCPX5, the AlphaOne does not have an integrated PC with touch screen. However, it can ideally be integrated into the company’s internal hardware landscape via a windows PC provided by the customer. Optionally, the AlphaOne can of course be configured with a separate All-In-One PC with touchscreen.

The new measuring device offers an interesting possibility to check the quality not only for cable manufacturers, cable assemblers and cable trading houses:

Optimal recirculation of braiding spools in the wire and cable industry

An efficient contribution towards supporting sustainable production and resource conservation in the cable and wire manufacturing industry is now available from iiM. The new automatic bobbin unwinder ABU24 makes it possible to simultaneously, gently and quickly feed up to 24 braiding spools back into the braiding process, thus reducing costs.

Special braiding spools are required in order to use braiding machines within the cable and wire manufacturing process. These spools, also known as “bobbins”, cannot be completely or evenly unwound during braiding. There is always a certain amount of wire remaining on the spool, which usually needs to be removed by hand. Popular methods in the industry, such as using blades or multitools, are very time-consuming and also damage the surface of the spools. Damage brings with it the risk that the fine wire will become caught or snap when the spool is used again. The service life of the spool is also significantly reduced by these manual methods.

The new automatic unwinder was developed to counteract this problem and make the use of braiding spools more sustainable. It offers the opportunity to unwind up to 24 spools at the same time without supervision. The process takes place completely autonomously. The machine with a simple, logical design allows the operator to complete loading and set-up in less than 5 minutes. Compared to the manual cutting of the residual wire, the time saved using the new method is considerable.

To avoid taking up any additional space in the factory, the machine is positioned directly on the EPAL box pallet containing the recycled material. With a simple action, the unwound material falls directly into the box underneath. The machine can be transported easily in the factory due to the substructure, which corresponds to the EPAL standard, and the low net weight of the machine.

The new VisioCablePro® bobbin unwinder has an intelligent automatic switch-off function, which stops the machine once the wire is unwound from the spools or the decoiler is full. Anti-vibration rollers and rubber elements gradually slow down the decoiler when the machine is switched off. Safe operation is ensured due to the low traction on the rotating components and the clearly visible indicator lights.

The new ABU24 allows costs to be further reduced, as the quality of the spools used remains at a high level over a very long period. The spools can thus pass through the production process more frequently and the risk of wire breaking during braiding is significantly minimised with undamaged spools. The use of the unwinder also reduces the risk of injury (no further handling of sharp blades) and the time needed by the operators. The machine is suitable for use with wire, thread or plastic fibres.
