The UPCAST®-SGTube line supplies thin-walled copper tubes with a grain structure that allows the cast tube to be machined directly with tube drawing machines
Since the cast tube is already quite close to the end product sizes, UPCAST®-SGTube can bypass several costly operations required in common tube mills.

The choice of cast tube size depends - among other things - on the size of the end product.

Most UPCAST® plants produce wire rod - both Cu-OF and alloys. The wire rod is typically 8 mm in diameter, which is the industry standard for wire and cable. Larger diameters are cast for the production of a variety of products, e.g. busbars, contact wires, galvanic anodes, etc.

UPCAST®-produced oxygen-free copper is a single-phase material with an oxygen content of only 1-2ppm. The UPCAST® process delivers the cast product directly in its final size without the need for hot rolling. This eliminates the possibility of rolling-induced inclusions and minimizes the thickness of the surface oxide layer. These factors give UPCAST® oxygen-free copper rod excellent ductility in addition to its excellent electrical conductivity.

UPCAST® copper wire rod is suitable for all electrical applications and has become the preferred starting material, especially for fine and multiwire drawing, where ductility requirements are the highest, and for enameled wire production, where surface finish is of paramount importance.

UPCAST® technology has always been an environmentally friendly process in itself. Only electricity, compressed air and cooling water are needed to keep the process running. No harmful emissions are released into the environment. However, the fact that UPCAST® technology is based on fundamentally green principles does not mean that it could not be even more environmentally friendly.

Since the direct environmental impact of UPCAST® technology is virtually zero, we have focused on the indirect impact, particularly energy consumption. In addition, energy consumption is also a financial issue.

Innovations with this dual benefit have been named GREENerCAST technology, which include the following

  • double loop inductors
  • furnace linings with reduced heat losses (both traditional bricks and prefabricated modules available)
  • stepless power control with fast switching transistors
